From a personal portfolio to a two-person studio
Northbridge grew from years of learning how the web works, building independent projects, helping clients, and connecting technical decisions to business needs.

Early curiosity: Learning how the web fit together.
Kyle started by building forum communities and small websites with tools such as vBulletin, phpBB, MyBB, PHP, and cPanel. What began as curiosity became a practical understanding of how websites, hosting, communities, and technical support work together.

A broader foundation: Technical work, programming, and teaching.
Technical support roles taught Kyle how to diagnose problems and explain solutions clearly. Studies in education at the University of Calgary and computer programming at Seneca College added two skills that still shape the work: understanding people and understanding systems.

Designed by Kyle: A portfolio became a client practice.
Designed by Kyle created a public home for independent web work, experiments, and client projects. Building a website, identity, and physical business cards made the practice more tangible and created the foundation Northbridge would grow from.

Built with a trusted friend: Two people with a long history of making things.
Kyle and Tyler Labs have known each other for roughly two decades and have worked together across web, technology, and application projects. Northbridge formalized a working relationship that was already built on trust, shared problem-solving, and years of friendship.

Northbridge: The work became a registered studio.
Northbridge turned the personal practice into a registered Ontario business with a clearer offer, a two-person delivery team, and a stronger focus on helping businesses use the web effectively.

Today: The build is only part of the job.
Projects now include discovery, recommendations, messaging, customer needs, SEO, prioritization, troubleshooting, and launch decisions. Development still matters, but it works best when it is connected to the business problem the website needs to solve.
